Performance is a choice, not a sales pitch. When you want a home that stays comfortable all year with fresh air and low running costs, we design and build for it from a clean sheet. When you want a well-built home to code, we build that properly too.

Clean-sheet design and build

The best results come when performance is part of the design from day one, not added at the end. On a knockdown rebuild or a custom home, we start with a clean sheet: orientation, glazing, shading, insulation and airtightness are planned together with your designer, then costed at every stage.

Passive House principles

Chris has been a Certified Passive House Tradesperson since June 2024. We build using the five principles behind Passive House:

Super-insulated building envelope. A continuous layer of insulation around the whole home.
Airtight construction. Membranes and taped joins that stop draughts and protect the structure.
High-performance glazing. Windows that keep heat where you want it.
Thermal bridge-free detailing. No weak spots where heat leaks through the frame.
Heat-recovery ventilation. Fresh, filtered air all day, without throwing away the warmth.

Our starting spec when you choose performance

When a client chooses a performance home, our baseline includes thermally broken windows, heat-recovery ventilation and airtight construction. From there we tune the spec to your design, your site and your budget.

Tested during the build

Airtightness depends on the detail work on site. We use blower-door testing during construction to check that work, and our team treats the building wrap as something you don’t penetrate without telling us.

Not every home needs to be a performance home.

Plenty of our clients choose a home built to code, and we build those properly too. Performance is a choice you make at design stage, and your QBE shows what it costs, so you can decide what's worth it.

Common questions

Is every Primebuilt home a high-performance home?

No. Many of our clients choose a home built to code, and we build those properly. Performance is an option you choose at design stage, and we specify to the level you want.

Are your homes certified Passive Houses?

We build using Passive House principles. Formal certification is a separate process run through the Passive House Institute, and it's something we can discuss if it matters to you.

What is a blower-door test?

It's a test that measures how airtight a home is. A fan is fitted into a doorway and the house is pressurised to find where air leaks. We use it to check our airtightness work during the build.

Does a performance home cost more?

Usually some parts cost more up front, such as better windows and ventilation. Your QBE shows the real cost for your design, so you can decide what's worth it to you.
